PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 27, 2003 OregonChorale to Feature Music From Around the World and Local Polish & Scandinavian Dancers at March 15 & 16 Concerts
This special concert will feature the Oregon Chorale performing a selection of unique and interesting folk songs from around the world that represent various peoples and cultures and their common bond of music. Performances by the Sobotka Polish Dancers from the St. Stanislaus Church and School in Northeast Portland (famous for Portland’s annual Polish Festival), and by Portland’s Scandinavian group Nordlys, will demonstrate the close relationship between folk song and dance. Both dance groups will be in full costume, adding a lively dash of color at intervals throughout the concert. Dancers at the Sunday concert will be accompanied live by Hapsala, from Portland's Estonian, Finnish and Polish communities. Choral music from Latvia, Poland, Italy, Finland, Polynesia, Thailand, England, and Ireland will be sung in native languages. There will also be American spirituals, and Native American Iroquois and Lakota songs. The “Many Voices, One World” concert will be at 7:00 pm on both March 15 and 16 at the Hillsboro High School Auditorium, 3285 SE Rood Bridge Rd., Hillsboro, OR. Tickets are $12 for Adults and $8 for Students/Seniors. For more information please call 503-939-8441. In addition to preparing for the March 15 & 16 concert, the Oregon Chorale is preparing for a June 7 & 8 concert titled “Treasures From the Baltics and Beyond: Sacred Melodies” in preparation for their Summer 2003 international performance tour to the Baltic region of Eastern Europe. The Chorale is also currently producing a holiday music CD planned for release in Fall 2003. |
